Have you ever wondered why the small monsters from Pokémon, Digimon and similar series allow their trainers to exploit them in dangerous arena battles? The first thing that comes to mind is some form of coercion or dependency – because the only other explanation would be that the small guys actually enjoy getting beaten, burned and electrocuted.
