This is where many people run out of ideas. Yet more and more often you need a present for someone who loves ones and zeros: a relative who works as a sysadmin, a friend who codes, or simply because SysAdmin Day is coming up. In our geek shop, programmers are among our favourite customers, which is why we have a big range of IT gadgets and other goodies they're sure to love.
Anyone looking for a gift for someone in IT, whether a computer scientist, a programmer or an admin, faces the same question: what makes someone happy who works with computers all day and prefers to pick their own tech? The answer is here. This selection collects gift ideas that speak the language of the trade, from the binary wristwatch and mugs with code jokes to the 127.0.0.1 doormat, which says "There is no place like home", just in IP addresses.
Programmers recognise each other by their humour. Shirts like It Works On My Machine, Deploy on Friday? or Help me, Stack Overflow capture everyday developer life, and You shall not parse! ties it to Gandalf. For the coffee break there is the Debugging mug and the mug The Code Is Documentation Enough. If you would rather play, take the programming language card game code:deck or the Pure Data Playing Cards, where each of the 54 cards is printed as a JSON code block. More designs are in programmer shirts and hoodies.
Admins spend all day answering questions whose answer is in the manual. For them there are shirts like Ich bin Admin or BOFH, and for the hard cases the LART network whip made of network cable. On the desk, the status light blink(1) mk3 shows in colour what is going on, and when the build fails again you may hit the giant Enter button. For a bigger gift, take a look at the mechanical keyboards. Shirts for everyone in the trade are in computer science shirts.
Beginners enjoy games and kits that make programming tangible. With the board game C-Jump, kids and pupils learn in a playful way how a program runs, and the BinaryBots kits turn into their first own robot. The binary LED watch for beginners trains counting in ones and zeros along the way.
